During my time at the CLC I have been faced with some big challenges. When the building was built I managed the configuration of the centre systems. I developed the staffing structure, found staff and procured equipment; involving a complex tendering process. I established policies and processes. All of this was a very steep learning curve.
In 2004 I initiated the involvement of Sheffield LEA in the national pilot of the Framework for IT Support (FITS). This is a best practice framework for managing schools ICT. I learned about how to manage ICT systems effectively. It made me realise that all the technical qualifications I'd picked up before working here were only a part of how you get reliable and effective ICT systems.
I had to learn to be a much better manager of people. Sheffield Council's own Managers' Course and the work taking the centre through Investors in People taught me a great deal about how to harness the creativity and energy of staff.
In my time at the centre I have learned an emormous amount about how to use ICT to develop teaching and learning. Every day working with teachers and young people I learn something new. My learning journey at the centre still has a long way to go.
